I’m not big on wars or the military, but
I respect the people putting their lives on
the line. To show my appreciation, this
Veteran’s Day, I compiled a list of
modern-day organizations supporting the
troops in the old fashioned pinup way!
Pin-ups for the Troops The
Pin-ups for the Troops project is
intended to boost the moral of all
soldiers stationed away from home.
What’s special about this specific
project is that they recreate original
Gil Elvgren paintings. The photographs
are compiled in a small paperback that
easily fits into a soldier’s duffle bag,
and is made of durable materials that
can withstand the harsh conditions of
the field. Proceeds from sales of the
books are donated to Fisher House.

  Robyn Michaels is a
friend on Flicker, who just loves
collecting vintage glamor. I recommend
two of his sets; Icons
of Glamour- filled with celebrities
and fashion icons of the 1950’s and
1960’s. And
Art and Illustration- dedicated to the
art of Gene Bilbrew.

Women and nature - the two greatest muses
of all times. I just got an email
that Blog Action
Day is back in action, this year. I
actually had this lovely Nature of Pinup
Girls article all ready for them,
supposing that they’re all about the
environment. Was I surprised, when I
found out, this year we blog about
poverty. So you get your Nature of
Pinups article a little early and I get
to challenge myself in linking pinups to
poverty.
For all you bloggers out
there:
Blog Action Day is a wonderful awareness
project. Each year, on October 15 th, bloggers unite
and write about one issue of importance.
Last year was a fantastic success, with the
issue being the environment. This year
promises to be even bigger. So join us!
Now, without further ado: The
Nature of Pinup Girls!

Pinup art is alive and it’s online!
As an artist, I’m
part of the online community for artists,
called DevintART.
As I said on Sunday, it’s really
important for us artists to support each
other. So here are some of my friends, who
create incredible pinup art, from classic
cheesecake, to neo pinup Goth, to
meta-pinups.
Asaru-75 for Diversity Asaru-75 is all
about color and strength. He presents a
few different female characters of
different ethnicity, but this African
pinup is by far the most appealing. As a
modern woman, this is a character I can
relate to; She’s sexy and tough with a
badass attitude, and it’s pretty obvious
she’s on a mission.
Check out
Asaru-75’s gallery at DeviantART!

Do men pinup artists draw differently
than women pinup artists? It’s the battle of
the sexes! It had to be asked- you know
it and I know it. It’s so basic to the
art-form, it just couldn’t be ignored. Pinup
art is about the way an artist perceives sex
and women, so there are bound to be
differences. Let’s observe, together, the
differences and similarities between men and
women pinup artists.
A Little HistoryTraditionally, not
many women artists are historically
documented. Women rights are such a new
concept, that sometimes I wonder how we got
so far, in such a short time span.
Historically, it was World War II that
launched women into the work-place, in
America, and they had their hand in every
field of expertise and occupation.

Take a tour in the high end of pinup
art. It’s true that mostly, pinup girls
are considered a low art, at times completely
thought of as porn. Today we talk a little
about pinups in Pop Art- a highly respected
art movement.
Before we take a look at some Pop Art pinup
girls, here’s a short explanation of the
movement:
Pop art is a visual art movement that
emerged in the mid 1950s... [it’s] one of
the major art movements of the twentieth
century. Characterized by themes and
techniques drawn from popular mass culture,
such as advertising and comic books, pop
art is widely interpreted as either a
reaction to the then-dominant ideas of
abstract expressionism or an expansion upon
them. Pop art, like pop music, aimed to
employ images of popular as opposed to
elitist culture in art, emphasizing the
banal or kitschy elements of any given
culture.

~
In essence, anyone making ads or comic book
art is creating popular culture. The
difference is that Pop Artists are usually
trying to react to pop-culture with their
creations and not just be part of the
creation mass. (Kind of like the difference
between Britney Spears and Madonna)

I thought it’d be cool to pay respect to all
the female sports-players out there, with a
little homage to the 1950's baseball uniform.
These batting bombshells were true pros.
