Are you a pinup lover? Do you find yourself
mysteriously drawn to this retro girlie art? Do
you find yourself at the computer, at night,
scouring the internet for more pictures? You're
not alone.

Hi, my name is Tali Shapiro and I'm a pinup
addict
I don't remember the first time I saw a pinup
girl. I don't even remember which one it was, I
just remember the feeling. That little tingle
of love at first sight. Even though the
painting was probably over 50 years old, it
felt crisp and new.
I showed artistic talent as a child and so my
parents encouraged me to paint. I always loved
drawing beautiful women. Come to think of it,
my interest always laid in the female
characters in movies and books. And I was
always drawn to the femme fatale. From the
biblical
Delilah to
Marlene
Dietrich to
Uma
Thurman's Mia Wallace. Strangely
enough, it would take over a decade to
realize what I really love to do. I went
through art school and many odd jobs,
until I had realized... I want to draw
pinups!
Opening up the The Pinup Shop just in time
for Halloween
Another aspect I love about pinups is that they
are a perfect canvas. From the artist's
perspective, I can mesh up "pinups" with
anything from "the holidays" to "social
issues". And so, it is with great pride, that I
open
The Pinup Shop.
Kicking it off with a celebration of the
31st of October, a
Halloween
Pinup. The first of many more to come.
As always, there is an ulterior motive
My nightly online searches for pinups did in
fact yield many results. from
playboy to
retro
fashions to actual
communities.
But to a certain extent I felt a bit
dissatisfied. There is a passion out
there, no doubt about it, but
conversations pretty much chock up to "I
drew this what do you think?" or "I'm
looking for military pinups, couldn't find
anything at..." Which has it's place, of
course, but Pinups are a form of art and a
controversial one, at that. It brings up
issues of gender studies and culture and
so much more. I know I had my share of
personal ethical struggles with it (which
I will share in this blog in due time

). There must be a more
meaningful place for this art in the world
and that's what this blog is all about.
Calling all pinup lovers
I'm hoping to form a community around my
favorite girlie art, because its artists are
true skillful craftsmen, who deserve respect,
whether they are painters, sculptors,
cartoonists, photographers, makeup artists or
models. Sure, pinups are only a footnote in
modern and post-modern art history, but
something tells me it's worth a course in
college (at least an overview

). So welcome to The Pinup
Shop blog. I post every week and update on
a new shop design whenever I upload one. I
would love to hear your comments. The
subscription buttons are to your left.
