Stylish First Ladies - Pinups in the White House

From Jackie O to Michelle Obama, first ladies are stylish, formidable women. Here’s a look at stylish first ladies - pinups in the white house.

First Ladies are usually not regarded by their sexuality as their job is of real substance. Most of them weren’t beautiful, or fashionable (a fact that would change with the coming of the television into every American home). But some were, And others had fantastic photographic moments.

Martha Washington - The First Lady

Wife of George Washington, Martha Washington was the first First Lady. She was the first to define the job and make it a meaningful one. We may be used to the white-haired matronly image of Mrs. Washington, but this painting reveals a graceful and proud woman with her best frocks on. Defiantly a formidable role- model for First Ladies to come.

Grace Anna Goodhue Coolidge - The First Flapper

Known for her fun personality and warm friendliness, Grace Coolidge was very active in her husband’s career. She would offset his reserved manner. These images show off a fashionably iconic Mrs. Coollidge, with tightly cropped hair and a straight-cut gown, up to date with the flapper fashions of the time.

Mamie Doud Eisenhower - The First Girly Lady

Not a beautiful woman by any stretch of the imagination, Mamie Eisenhower enters this list for her extravagant and girly sense of style. All so 50’s, I just had to include her. The gloves, the strapless poodle gowns- gourgeous!

And here’s one from 1916, Mamie Eisenhower at age 19, showing off an early girly sense of style with a humble, frilly wedding dress:

Jacqueline Kennedy - First Fashion Icon First Lady

Some say the presidency has become a celebrity mockery. Some seem to forget the very photographed Jacqueline Kennedy. Never before has a First Lady been so imitated. An indisputably beautiful woman and fashion icon. Always dressed to a tee and a trend-setter with the most impeccable taste.

Nancy Reagan - X Pinup

Nancy Reagan wasn’t a young chicklet, when she reached the White House and I can’t say I’m a big fan of her conservative garb. To Mrs. Reagan’s advantage, she did know how to glam it up and unlike any other First Lady Mrs. Reagan was truly a pinup.

Michelle Obama - The Latest First Lady

Michelle Obama was what sparked the idea for this article. Never since Jacqueline Kennedy did a first lady show off such an up to date, imitate-able fashion sense. From Mrs. President to casual Michelle to party girl to queen of the night, the current First lady is showing off a fashion sense which has class, variety, personality and many followers:
