We had a good look at some Art Nouveau
pieces, last time, but missed out on some
creepy ones. These two are both sci-fi
posters, which would explain their
bizarreness. I couldn’t find much about these
two artists. I did find very few more images
of Hans Neumann- he was definitely a working
pinup artist. If you can fill us in,
don’t hesitate to leave a comment or
shoot me an
email.
Dana Brushette is a
pinup photographer. And though her
gallery is positively splendid, I
actually bring her up today because of
her unique offer: Dana Brushette will
teach you how to become a pinup with her
Pin-up
Girl classes. Classes include A
brief history of pin-up, pin-up hair and
make-up, posing tips, use of props and a
pinup photo shoot. So for all of you who
want to know how to become a classic
pinup, check it out.

Joel Herrera is a
fine artist and illustrator from HAPstudios. Though
he does many types of drawing (especially
comics), I find his pinup girls
particularly irresistible.

Want the pinup look? Here’s a beginners
guide to shopping the pinup way!
Pinups
are the biggest retro thrill right now.
Everybody is clamoring for that 1950’s look.
To get you started, I’ve decided to compile a
list of some awesome online shops, covering
all the majors. From the clothes, to the
shoes to the garters. Ready your bookmarks
girls! (And you spunky boys )
Retro and Vintage Clothing
A poodle
dress, a pencil skirt, ¾ pants and other
thrilling pieces of vintage are all the rage.
They’ll give you that 1950’s flare, wether
you’re wearing garters or not.
The top 3 retro shops are Pin up Girl
Clothing, Babygirl
Boutique and my personal favorite,
the environmentally conscious Enamore. All three
are highly styled and can pretty much
complete the look for you, with
accessories and shoes. If your a
dabbler, they also provide solutions for
those, who don’t want the complete look-
just the feel.
Ian Glaubinger is a
comics artist. Mostly associated with
Cave Drawing
Ink. I just happened to stumble
across his rendition of the Sally
Jupiter for The Children of Watchmen. I
know you graphic novel lovers will
recognize her immediately, and for those
of you who don’t, you can always enjoy
this whimsical portray of the super
heroine.

I know a lot of
people have been looking for pinup
tattoos lately. Pin-up
Tattoos is a small blog, dedicated
to this subject exactly- pinup girl
tattoos. It’s simple navigation and it’s
mostly pictures. A short and lovely
thrill.

The Hindu show that pinup art can be
spiritually inspiring.
Update:
Dear loyal readers,
I’ve got my bags packed and I’m all
psyched. I’m going to India tomorrow!
Don’t worry your pretty little heads, The
Pinup Blog will be updating regularly
(courtesy of my beloved brother), but I
won’t be here to respond to comments and
emails. I’ll be gone for about a month and
a half and when I’m back, I want my inbox
exploding, you hear?!
Anyway, I thought
I’d get all of you in the mood with me,
and cover a bit of the more modern Hindu
paintings of Hindu goddesses. (The
artists are never mentioned. So if you
can fill us in, don’t hesitate to leave
a comment or
email me.) These paintings, as you’ll
see, are quite realistic, and are
stylistically inspired by western commercial
art. They are sold as postcards and stickers,
and are intended for mass consumption. The
Hindu worshipper can pin them up in his home,
his shop, or his shrine and they would be
just as sacred.
Devi
Devi is the female aspect of the
divine, quintessentially, the core form of
every Hindu Goddess. She is the female
counterpart without whom the male aspect,
which represents consciousness or
discrimination, remains impotent and void.
Every other goddess is a manifestation of
Devi.
Another sweet transvestite is
accumulating big fame. Of course I’m talking
about the man who got David Hasselhoff
questioning his own sexuality, again and
again. It’s America’s Got Talent’s Derrick
Barry, who does a mean Britney Spears
impersonation. You won’t believe it even when
you see it!

Continuing Tuesday’s
fetish trend, I recommend I Like to
Watch. I Like to Watch is basically
a link page, filled to pop with
fantastic vintage erotica links from all
around the world. The site
is old and some of the
links are dead, but it’s definitely
worth a visit and a good scrutiny of all
the wonderful alternative culture it
links to.

The Pinup Shop’s first birthday is coming up,
in about a month, and I thought, what better
way to celebrate this momentous occasion than
a sexy
birthday pinup girl? I got to strike
another blow in the name of diversity,
with the help of the lovely model, who
agreed to pose for this pinup portrait- so
it’s a double celebration!
Celebrate with me (or anyone else, for that
matter) and click on the item of your choice,
below!
Hope you like her,

Leather, bondage and femdom make a great
setting for pinup photography. Take a sneak
peak into pinup subculture.
A great place to
find pinups is the fetish magazine. You may
be surprised, but the fetish magazine
originates in the sweet ole’ 1960’s. You
might also be surprised to know that these
magazines are aimed to be erotic rather than
pornographic. Fetishes aren’t for everybody,
Wikipedia says it beautifully:
Much of the content in fetish magazines
is baffling to people who do not share the
particular fetishes discussed and
depicted.
Peter J.
Ketchum is a fine artist with a
passion for ephemera. He collects old
original black and white images:
snapshots, photos, postcards, tin types
and carte de viste and edits them or
adds color, in order to convey his
message. Ketchum is a social artist, who
tries to understand stereotypes and
common beliefs in society, through his
altered vintage collections. A lot of
his work would be considered off-color
and it represents yester-century’s
stereotypes and explains its connection
to today.

David Uhl is the
artist behind the award winning David
Uhl Illustrations. Uhl has been an
artist all his life, but he only started
oil painting since 1996. Most of his
work is for Harley Davidson (like the
above example) and it truly touches on
the pinup style. Uhl girls aren’t afraid
to get their hands dirty and they truly
live the HOG lifestyle.

Why is the school girl such popular
fantasy? Where does she come from? Join me on
an exploration of the school girl
fetish.
The school girl is one of the most
common fetishes today. I’m sad to say I found
no articles about the origins of this one. I
can only guess it has to do with Catholic
schools being so restricting, that fantasies
had to emerge. (For more examples of fantasy
growing out of sexual restriction , check out
The
Vail Fetish Pinup.)
The school girl’s origins may be obscure, but
the appeal is very obvious. The young
virginal girl on the verge of womanhood has
been a fantasy for centuries. You will find
this theme hidden in classics like “Dracula”
or Henry James’ “Daisy Miller”, or blatantly
uttered in the Marquis de Sade’s novels. Here
is a very modern adaptation.
