“She was smart. That was a trick that she
tried to keep from people.” ~Ryan
O’neal
Farrah Fawcett dies
at the way too early age of 62. A woman
who would present herself simpler than
she really was, and was profoundly
human. There was a real person behind
those pearly whites, and I’d like to
take you behind the pinup.
SvarTTrasT
is a fantastic Icelandic photographer,
that I stumbled across on Flickr. He
creates
a lot of impressive imagery, but I’m
focusing on his marvelous effeminate
beefcake. I don’t know what I like more about
this image; The fact that it’s so well done,
the humor, the GLBT twist, or more proof that
all men have fine long legs and they should
be the ones wearing short skirts.

Father’s day is coming up and in that
context, it’s a great time to talk about that
ever-so-taboo fetish:
Lolita.
Nabokov wasn’t really talking about
pedophilia, but the shock value seems to
overshadow the existential value of the
novel, Lolita. The cultural significance is
found between the pages of the dictionary:
“Main Entry: Lo·li·ta
Pronunciation: \lō-ˈlē-tə\
Function: noun
Etymology: from Lolita, character in the
novel Lolita (1955) by Vladimir Nabokov
Date: 1959
: a precociously seductive girl”
And also found on celluloid (as seen above).
Most people find it disconcerting that grown
men may feel attracted to young ladies. Or
that grown women act like little girls, in
order to attract grown men. As a result,
culture has given rise to some interesting
phenomena.
A few months ago, we
were introduced to the fantastic
RITZ! magazine. Today, Jacques
magazine hits the stands of the United
States (TenOver6, Capsule NY and
Capsule LV). From the promotionals,
I can tell we’re talking about a high
class operation. Fixing it up where
Playboy fucked it up, Jacques creators
promise the models are:
“...never retouched, never airbrushed and
shot exclusively on film...”

A great single find
on Euphoria
Magazine. The page is filled with
fantastic retro shots, but none like this
Betty Boop lookalike. There’s something so
completely disturbing about this
photograph, I thought it’d give you all a
laugh and a giggle. The effort,
nevertheless, is incredible.

Hot Rod is very much an art form. It has
to do with restoration of old vehicles, so
it’s easy to see why the artists are usually
male. And where there’s a male hub, there are
always sexy ladies.
Gil Elvgren - Vintage Feminism and the
Origin of the Hot Rod Pinup
It may have
completely happened by mistake, but we can
trace the traditional hot rod pinup way back
to the early 50’s. When Elvgren took them out
of the home and into the car. I love the few
examples, where the Elvgren pinup is
daintily, yet competently, handling the car,
or the one, where she’s the competent driver.
If you’re looking
for vintage gems, CineBeats (Newest on
the sidebar) is the place to go. Amidst
the beautiful 1960’s and 70’s vintage
images, you’ll find the intelligent and
humorous writing of Kimberly Lindbergs.
The design is pleasant, the information
unique and the pinups! Oh the pinups

In the process of
LIFE magazine’s converting of their
archives to the digital realm,
fascinating photos pop up. The latest
find is a series of
pre-fame Marilyn Monroe shots.
Twenty-four and fresh faced, LIFE turned
down the images, photographed by Ed Clark,
asking “Who the hell is Marilyn Monroe?!”
Here she is, reading a screenplay, at
Griffith Park, in Los Angeles.

I usually make my own magic lists, but I
stumbled upon The Huffington Post’s Lesley M.
M. Blume’s “6 Of The World's Most Beautiful
Older Women” and just couldn’t agree
more.
I don’t know if
I’m getting older, or older women are getting
more beautiful, but without a doubt, today,
there are numerous beautiful women who
respect their aging nature. Lesley M. M.
Blume, who wrote this list, said it
beautifully:
“...these ladies know better than to try
to look like you're 20 when you're 50. The
real trick: to look like a beautiful
50-year-old when you're 50.”
I loved Blume’s list and thought
it was right on. So in the name of
non-plastic aging and the appreciation of the
diversity of all that’s beautiful in this
world, here’s the embellished
list of 6 Of The World's Most Beautiful Older
Women:
#1 Helen Mirren
Helen Mirren, 64,
always had guts, when it came to
choosing her roles, but also taking off
her clothes. From the sweet and innocent
young lass in The
Age of Consent to to the sultry and
depressed wife of a sadistic tyrant in
The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her
Lover to the tough and introverted
detective on Prime Suspect, Mirren always
carries herself with a very attractive
dignity. And of course she’s the perfect
woman to open this list, as part of the cast
of Calendar Girls:
There’s not much information about the
culture blog, Private (newest
addition to the sidebar). It’s
authors are apparently a Denmark based
band that goes by the same name. Although
Private is not strictly a pinup blog, once
in a few posts a fascinating pinup will
show up. Such is
the image to the left, from the
controversial film, The Night Porter. So if
you’re out in search of high alternative
culture, look no further!

Nothing like a hula girl to show off your
expensive tastes. It’s the top 10 house decor
pinups!
Sometimes you
just want to show off how much class you’ve
got. No better way to do it than a half-naked
lady as a conversation piece So, in honor of all my
fellow cheese lovers, I’ve piled up some
lovely, retro decor pieces.
#10 Vintage Tin Signs
Nothing says
“class” like a tin sign. Personally, I prefer
my tin signs with vintage pinup images.
That’s where Jack
and Friends come in. It’s a lovely
world of vintage and retro home decor
gifts, and there’s an extensive
collection of classic cheesecake tin
signs. Some Elvgren, some Driben, some
Bolles and a few anonymous beauties as
well.
