Pinups
Why did the classic pinup portray the
classic damsel in distress and why do
neo-pinups refrain from this role?
Contrasting classic pinups with neo-pinups
one factor really stands out: The classic
pinup is, many a time, a damsel in distress,
while the neo-pinup is usually just posing.
What can be learned about the evolution of
role of fantasy, in pinup art?

Corsets, sheer robes, silk, cotton,
flowers and polka dots and everything nice!
That’s what pinup unmentionables are made of.
For your pleasure and education, here’s a
peep at pinup lingerie- then and now.
There was an age, when you could catch a
pinup in regular, every day panties. White
cotton shorts that would peep out from a
scandalously flowing skirt. With the rise of
girlie magazines, came a demand for more
risque cheesecake. Artists, happily obliged
and today there is a huge collection of
drawings of the day’s finest lingerie and
fantasy wear.

Who are the gutsy women, who aren’t
afraid to stand in the face of feminism and
talk about their feminine experience, via the
provocative art of cheesecake?
Pinup art is typically thought of as a “boy’s
art”. Many don’t even realize, that the sexy
eye-candy, in the picture, was created by a
woman. This post is dedicated to the fine
female artists of pinup art. They are rare
and few, but they left an undeniable mark on
this “boy’s club”.
The Classic ArtistsThere weren’t
many women painting pinups, in the 30’s and
40’s. Hell! There weren’t many women in the
work-force, in the 30’s and 40’s. So these
girls are pioneers in many aspects. Did they
change the pinup landscape? I definitely
believe so. A more personal touch, a more
respectful treatment of the individual and a
more active pinup.

Nose art has, pretty much, existed since
planes became a war-craft. In an effort to
boost moral, pilots would paint the
squadron’s insignia on the nose of the plane.
A little later, shark teeth, under the
propeller became all the rage. Then came the
pinup.
