Melanie Brown, a.k.a “Mel B”, a.k.a “Scary
Spice” of the Spice Girls, decided to join
the world of burlesque with a high energy
performance, including singing, dancing and,
of course, partial stripping. The show is
“very Vegas”, with many costume changes and a
big ensemble. It looks like a lot of fun, so
if you’re in Las Vegas any time soon, go
ahead and give it a peep.

While searching for artsy burlesque, I
stumbled across the DC
Cowboys Dance Company. This gay
cultural group is not only infectiously
fun, they stand for ideas I love to
promote on this blog: Diversity, tolerance
and unapologetic sexiness. With slogans
like Diversity Through Dance and Brokeback
Meets Broadway, and a classic beefcake
theme and attitude, I was won over
instantly.

Making art in pasties is no joking
matter, but it is a lot of laughs.
Burlesque was
always more about tease than strip. I looked
far and wide and found that many burlesque
artists take it a notch higher, with more
than raunch in mind. I also found some
fantastic pieces in “family” variety shows
that aren’t considered burlesque per se, but
would have a huge audience in the burlesque
crowd. It’s artsy, it’s fun, it’s full of
thought, it’s sexy, it’s burlesque!
This fun slideshow is only one small part
of shamelessly retro
Lance Wagner & Trixie Lane’s Old School
Pinups (new on the sidebar). A
Seattle-based pinup photography studio is
all about that retro glamour and camp,
producing beautiful, colorful images and
creating a complete and unforgettable
experience. The site itself is robust and
full of delightful content, so even if
you’re not in the Seattle area, you can
still enjoy the sights!

Naughty and nice,
sexy and sweet, green and pink; Beauty
and nature are synonymous. This
beautiful young lady asked me for a
flower theme, and I was more than happy
to oblige. A little plot of nature with
a touch of man-made glamour and viola! A
glamor
flower girl!
Appreciate the beauty of nature with a touch
of classic glamor, and click on the item of

They’re fierce, they rock, they rap,
they’re retro, they are the diverse women of
Indie Rock!
From the poppish Pipettes, to the rapping
M.I.A, to the rocking Peaches, I bring you a
list of the fierce and divers ladies of
contemporary Indie rock. Though each act has
her unique style and statement, I can’t help
but reminisce of the days of 1980’s Blondie,
who seems to be the spiritual mother to many
of these ladies of Indie.
Peter Gowland, the
legendary glamor photographer, has a
beautiful site that features many of his
works. Witness the 1950’s till today
through this glitzy and unique lens.
From glamor, to old friends, Gowland’s
site is more like a well organized and
well photographed personal album... OK,
it’s the album you wished your auntie
had, when she was telling you all her
mind-numbing stories from her last
vacation. So get a load of this!

A 1970’s sepia tint, 1980’s hair and make up,
1990’s neon-colored under garments,
21st century tattoo. Stacey Mark takes
a bit of everything and comes up with
contemporary pinup photography with that
vintage feel. Beautiful works, simply laid
out on her site. A must-peak!

What happens when
the “oriental” depicts the “oriental”?
When Japanese pinup artist, Hajime Sorayama,
decides to depict an Arab erotic
fantasy, you get the fantastically
eclectic image to the left. I’ve never
seen this painting before and decided to
post, as I found it striking and it
immediately invoked my curiosity. No
doubt this is a beautiful piece, very
sensitively drawn with an eye for detail
and a wink at Sci-Fi. My initial
question isn’t really answered, but it
lingers in the mind for thought. A
little weekend intellectual stimuli for
you

One piece of clothing that drove women to
self mutilation. THE symbol of the social
subjugation of women, for generations and yet
we still love it. So much so, that even after
it died, we revived it several times.
Women’s clothing have always been
controversial. Trying to balance comfort and
beauty has never been the goal of top
designers. Corsets, today, are a choice and a
fashion statement. They also don’t
necessarily mean body modification, by way of
cinching the waist, although some go for this
unhealthy practice. As a wise commentator
said, on the YouTube page of the video to the
left:
“Very
sensual, but after a point it becomes
grotesque. Part of the art is knowing how far
to go and have it still look good, not
deformed.”
Many great finds
this week. I’d like to introduce you to
this fine nude art blog, Univers
d'Artistes (new on the sidebar). It’s
not pinup per se, but just look at
this charming by-the-way nudity, to your
left! A collective blog of nude artists
(don’t get cute! the art is
nude), Univers d'Artistes sports a versatile
collection of nude photography, in infinite
styles and formats, and also gives room for
the artists to talk about their work. It’s an
intimate peak into an intimate world.
