Tattoos, piercing and brightly dyed hair
is what the neo-pinup girl is all about.
Christmas time is a time of giving and I want
to give some of my favorite neo-pinups a
tribute. Merry Christmas!
The pinup
revival is not about doing it like Vargas.
Today’s pinups are only a reminder of what
pinups used to look like. They have their own
special edge, with the tattoos, the piercing
and the brightly dyed hair. Maybe, in fifty
years- when the next pinup revival comes,
instead of the Betty Page hair-cut, they’ll
all have pink or red hair and body paint?
#10 Vicky Decay
This Welsh bombshell began her pinup career
with the
Suicide
Girls and continued
in her own right
. Sadly for us- pinup lovers, Vicky
mostly does modern work, but we were
lucky to find this charming, retro set
at
DeviantArt.
#9 Kay O’Hara

One of the mothers
of neo-pinup glamor,
Kay O’Hara is
one of the most accomplished pinups in
the industry, with hundreds of shoots,
to her name. O'Hara is versatile and has
a lot of fun. She takes her pinup-status
seriously and
produces
merchandise far wider than pinups.
#8 Frankie Sin

Usually a goth pinup
(most recently for
Coffin Case
Fashion),
Sin
softens a bit, for this shoot, and
delivers her pink version of Christmas.
#7 Sabina

A pinp model and
burlesqe performer, statuesque
Sabina
is a very impressive recent addition to
the neo-pinup scene. She’s been modeling
for only 4 years and looks like a
natural. At her website, she shows off
her fashion photographs, as well s
paintings of herself and tattoos, sent
in by fans. It’s an interesting inside
look into this sub-culture.
#6 Audrey Kitching

Ok, this is hardly a
50’s pinup set, but this
16-year-old-looking 22-year-old has that
grungy spark that only
internet
celebrities have. Something about
the sour-puss and the Avril Lavigne
fashions just makes me want to see her
do a more retro-classic shoot. If
Kitching
ever chooses that path, The Pinup Shop
Blog will be here to report all about
it.
#5 Go Go Amy

Go Go Amy has
the perfect
biography for a pinup model:
Starting out as a cigarette girl and
moving on to go go dancing. From there
to burlesque and modeling. She models
beautifully, with a lot of energy and
pizazz. Truly beautiful and fun.
#4 Heidi Van Horne

A model for
Pinup Girl
Clothing, Heidi easily goes from
modern
sweetheart to
retro
vixen. Her acting talents are
visible in her pinup pictures, as in her
screen cameos. This specific picture, I
find stunning, as I wasn’t sure, in the
beginning, if it’s the real vintage
deal, or not. Of course, all credit to
the amazing photographer,
Danielle
Bedics.
#3 Masuimi Max

The Angelina Jolie
of the pinup world,
Max is
just plain dripping sex. This natural
sex appeal makes her pinup shoots more
mesmerizing than raunchy and that’s a
natural talent no one else can claim.
Probably one of the busiest pinup
models, today, Max’s got a modern edge
that make neo-pinups what they are- not
replicas of their 50’s counterpart, but
something all of their own.
#2 Dita Von Teese

Dita brings the
retro back to the neo-pinup scene.
Something classy and almost snobby,
making her that un-touchable fantasy-
not a hair out of place. Of course, Dita
is a performer. Her burlesque act is
sought after all over the world. Dita
photographs
powerfully and her presence is
almost immortal.
#1 Bernie Dexter

This Chrismas’
number one is Bernie Dexter. Dexter is
from a long
line of pinup models and burlesque
dancers. She would have been the
perfect Betty Page look-alike, if it
wasn’t for her own perky personality
that dominates the lens. She’s got the
right balanced blend of sweet and sexy.
She’s the closest to an original 50’s
pinup that you could find in our
hard-edged world. Bernie’s not only
sexy, but fun to look at, as well. Her
Christmas pinups really say “Merry
Christmas!”
Merry Christmas, everyone!
P.S.
Don’t forget to check out my own
Christmas
pinup!
