From Marilyn Monroe to Christina
Aguilera, The music world has brought out
some of the biggest pop pinup icons.
More
than any other industry, the music industry
is known for some outrageous costuming. It
isn’t customary for a woman, today, to dress
up as a 1950’s calender pinup, but pop stars
all over want to. I say let’em and see what a
beautiful world this could be !
Marilyn Monroe - The
Icon
Marilyn Monroe was mainly a movie star, but
we all remember her for her delightful
singing voice, as well. What she wore, in her
time, was really typical glamor wear, but
this woman set trends that would be copied
decades later. I think this proves it’s not
the dress that makes the woman, but the woman
who makes the dress. Back in the 1950’s and
today women everywhere want to copy the look,
and some of them are the biggest pop starlets
around.
Madonna - The Trend Setter
While
Marilyn Monroe was the icon, Madonna was
definitely the first pop star to go back and
explore Monroe’s look:
Madonna, however, didn’t stop there, she’s
delved into all sorts of retro, mixed and
matched and came up with incredible, post
modern retro looks of her own. That’s why she
became an icon and a trend setter, in her own
right.
Christina Aguilera - The Fashionista
No one can deny Christina Aguilera has
talent. I, for one am not completely
satisfied with her message, but I do love her
sense of vintage Style. It’s safe to say that
Aguilera has made vintage fashionable amongst
young women. Her Back to Basics Photo shoots
and videos
are exquisite and fun, and that’s what
pinups are all about.
Kyle Minogue - The Golden Girl
Kyle Minogue has had a few style fluxes in
her career. Generally, I think it’s safe to
say she’s been sticking to a golden girl
image, for quite a few years now. Lately,
however, she’s been closer to our favorite
retro fashions than ever and, typically to
her, doing a classy job of it.
Amy Winehouse - The Fashion Rebel
We’ve seen the nice side of retro fashion,
now here’s the naughty. I’m never quite sure
if Amy Winehouse is a fashion victim or a
brilliant fashion commentator. Despite her
problems, which are sometimes visible, many
times Winehouse looks like a very cleverly
designed punk pinup, challenging the sweet
and perfect look.
Gwen Stefani - Glamor with an
Attitude
Gwen Stefani always
showed an interest in the 1950’s style.
Her signature red lipstick and perfectly
curled platinum bangs were a clear-cut
sign of things to come, even in the days
of No Doubt. From the simple, blue polka
dot dress, to today’s elaborate Hot
Couture photo shoots, Stefani has always
given us something to look forward to.
Hope you enjoyed this weeks collection of pop
pinups,
