You’re not seeing double. This list
compiles pinup twins from around the world
and across history.
Like
the bunny and the exotic dancer, the
fantasy of twins has always been out
there. Twins photograph incredibly, and
automatically call to mind additional
meaning to an image. Smart photographers
and painters utilized their rarity in
order to create a stunning image. I’m
leaving the sexual stuff out of this
list, as alluring as it may appear it’s
incest and I’m just not that kind of
blogger.
The Vintage Twins that Launched a
Thousand Words

Not much is known
about
Edward
D'Ancona, who very possibly had a severe
book fetish. This pinup isn’t dated,
and all we can assume is that it was
painted between the mid 1930-1960, the
years he was known to be an active
calendar artist. That’s a big gap, and
the painting doesn’t clue us in to much.
Seeing as these glamor girls are naked,
the only thing I could go by is the
hair, which looks right about the right
length and styling to be between the
1940-1950. But again, I don’t know for
sure, so feel free to enlighten us with
an
email
or comment, if you know better.
This is the pinup that inspired this article,
because...
a) I’m always caught by surprise at how our
most risqué sexual fantasies are actually so
passé. And b) How well this piece is painted
(not including the shelf, where the artist
obviously lost interest

). And c) The cheesy (yet
witty for its time) book titles and
Authors.
One last point of thought before we move on.
These girls act as book supports. This is not
just a twin fantasy, this is also a fantasy
of
objectification
(So not safe for work it’s not even
funny!), early
Forniphilia,
if you will

. Literal objectification,
is not common in the pinup world, this
is a doubly exceptional piece. Which
brings us to another issue: How small
are these women, anyway?
Sexy Retro Innocence

Although I’m not
sure who’s image this is, or when it was
taken, I’ll give it a raw guess: mid
1950-1960. (As usual, do let us know
with an
email
or comment, if you know something.) Some
of my readers may be a little upset with
me. This is not my usually-posted sexy
image, but I beg to differ. Apart from
this image being visually stunning, I
happen to think it’s all about sex. And
just as the former twin shot wasn’t
about twins, neither is this one.
It is possible that these two are not twins
at all (conceptually, in reality they most
probably were). It’s possible that this is a
story of one young young woman losing her
innocence. Note the hair-bow becomes an apple
from one girl to the other. The apple being a
clichéd (and inaccurate) hint to the
forbidden fruit. The one holding the apple is
boldly looking straight at us, while the one
with the bow is bowing her head. That’s my
take on these set of twins, anyhow. What’s
yours?
Chinese Twin Calender Girls
On
my trip to Macao, last year, I bought a
pack of cards, depicting what was called, in
20
th
century China, “Beauty Calender”. As you can
see, many of these pinups depicted twins (or
sisters). The Chinese cheesecake is much less
sexual, of course, but we must remember that
these dresses were considerably tight,
compared to what was respectable in 1940’s
China. I do urge you to note the exquisite
detail on these cards, however.
Vespa Twins

The last of our
retro twins, for this article, are these
adorable Vespa girls. I grabbed these
two off of Google, without much
reference as to who they are and when
the image was taken. Yet again, if you
know anything… you know what to do

. (For more Vespa girls,
read
Ladies
Prefer Vespa.)
So 80’s
Patrick
Nagel (1945-1984) was a successful
commercial artist, during the 70’s. In
1976, he started contributing to
playboy, regularly, where he accumulated
a huge following. Nagel’s work was
influenced by Japanese woodblock and Art
Deco styling, but took on a life of it’s
own, and has a distinct 80’s feel to it.
The Hildebrandt Twins

The Hildebrandt
brothers are twin fantasy artists, who
worked together on and off, throughout
their illustration careers. In the year
2000, Greg Hildebrandt decided he would
paint
a
series of women. Only one painting
was dedicated to twins and we’re happy
it was.
Neo Twins

We enter the realm
of neo-pinups with the twins, Allison
Evans and Jessica Henry. Although
only
Jessica peruses pinup modeling as a
career, I stumbled on some
wonderfully
dramatic images of the girls modeling
together, at Flickr.
Playboy Manages to Cross My Lines with
the Bentley Twins

I’m not squeamish
about porn, in fact, I happen to like
it. I prefer it in art and literature,
where it becomes twice as exiting, but
like any healthy young woman, sometimes
a graphic close up will do the trick.

That being said, Playboy
managed to cross a line with me. As I
mentioned before, I understand the twin
fantasy, but what the Bentley sisters do
together is, in reality incest. It’s not
a moral issue, as far as I’m concerned,
it’s a psychological issue and it’s
their business. The moral part comes in,
when I decide to post these photos, or
not. The gist of my moral dilemma is
this: Enjoy the beauty of these stunning
ladies, but I will not condone that kind
of behavior on my blog (this is a family
establishment

).
That’s it for the our in depth look of pinup
twins. I hope I doubled your happiness. Now
allow me to triple it:
